Pre-production – The first step on a long road
Pre-production is weird.
Movies can sit in PP (a term I just made up) for ages and never get off the starting blocks. PP doesn’t really have a final goal. It’s about planning, and technically you can plan forever. But one day you have to start production.
Today was the first real day of pre-production, we lay out plans for what jobs needed to be done, who is going to do them and when they need to be done… Every time we meet, we have a new joke, character or idea for the movie. We have lots of background tinkering to sort out, but the dust is clearing and the metaphorical roadmap movie is starting to take shape. Real production will start very very soon.
